INDOOR AREAS

No matter what kind of party you’re having, everyone ends up in the kitchen. Be prepared by making sure your kitchen is clean and safe for food prep.

Microwave

Perhaps the most used kitchen appliance can be one of the most irritating to clean. A quick and natural way to clean your microwave is to fill a glass bowl halfway with water. Slice up some lemons and toss them in the bowl. Microwave for four minutes, and then wipe your microwave down. Still have some stubborn stuck-on food? Repeat. There you have it! A food-ready, clean microwave.

Wooden cutting boards

With all hands on deck helping to prepare food, you want to make sure that all cutting surfaces will be safe. The last thing you want is for your Fourth of July gathering to end with any kind of food-borne illness. Wooden cutting boards can be sneaky boarding houses for germs. Still have those lemons from the microwave cleaning? Great! You can sprinkle salt on your cutting board, rub half a lemon all over it, let sit for a few minutes, and rinse. Once your cutting board is completely dry you can rub coconut oil over its surfaces to keep it in pristine condition.

Garbage/Recycling

If you’ve ever hosted a large gathering, you know how quickly your garbage and recycling can fill up. Make sure that yours are empty when people arrive. If you are a proactive host, you can label your recycling bin with what is recyclable in your area. This might help your guests feel at home by eliminating the need to ask where they should toss their bottles, cans, or cardboard.

OUTDOOR AREAS

Outdoor living spaces are truly an extension of the home, and it’s very likely that your guests will spend most of their time gathered together outdoors. Don’t neglect cleaning these spaces! No matter the kind of seating you have it’s a must-do to clean them before you plan to have people over. Here are some tips to keeping your outdoor seating areas looking on point and ready for the party.

Cushioned Seats

Cushioned seats are especially inviting in an outdoor seating area. The only problem is that they are also inviting to dust, pollen, and dirt. A few days before your gathering takes place, you should consider doing a deep clean. You’ll need ½ Cup of Borax, a squirt of dish soap, a scrub brush, and about a gallon of hot water. Add the Borax, water, and soap, and get to work! Scrub around your cushions until they are looking spotless. Give a rinse with a hose and leave to dry in the sun. Have some extra time on your hands? You can also use this exact procedure on any outdoor rugs you may have.

Deck

Wood surfaces need a little TLC from time to time. Keeping your deck maintained will offer you not only peace of mind, but it will look so much better when you entertain. All you need to do is sweep, spray off your deck with a garden hose, and then clean with a vinegar solution. Just pour about one gallon of water into a bucket and add a cup of vinegar. Use a mop with this solution all over your deck, and then spray with your garden hose one more time. This quick fix will make a world of difference.
